The Takumi Rago combines a segmented body with dense rows of long, curved appendages for a creature bait with a distinctive presence in the water. Its buoyant TPE construction opens up presentations from the surface to the bottom, giving anglers several ways to work its unusual silhouette.

Fish it weightless for a floating presentation, using gentle twitches and pauses around shoreline cover. Add weight to explore beneath the surface, swim it with slow pulls, or shake it along the bottom. Its buoyancy helps lift the unweighted portions of the bait while its sweeping appendages add movement.

Pitch it beside brush, work it along rocky transitions, or place it ahead of a cruising bass. Adjust your rig and retrieve to show fish something different.

Ideal Setup

• Rod: A 7′–7′3″ medium-heavy casting rod with a fast action is a practical starting point. Match the rod’s lure rating to Rago’s total rigged weight; move to heavy power when weight or cover requires it.

• Reel: A baitcasting reel with a 7.1:1–8.1:1 gear ratio provides quick slack pickup between twitches and after a strike.

• Line: For weightless surface presentations, start with 30–40 lb braid and an optional monofilament leader. For weighted subsurface presentations, use 14–17 lb fluorocarbon, increasing strength around heavier cover.

• Rigging: Fish weightless on a properly sized offset hook around shallow cover. Try a lightly weighted Texas rig, free rig, or jighead to work deeper. Choose sufficient hook gap to clear the body without crowding the appendages.

• Retrieve: Mix gentle shakes, short twitches, slow swimming pulls, and pauses. Use the lightest weight that provides the depth and control you need.
